Balancing career and motherhood

Can you have a balanced lifestyle as a girl child or woman, career and motherhood?

You can have it all, a blossoming career and an enjoyable journey into motherhood through good planning and team work. Family planning is very important as it leads to less stress and worry.

Someone nicknamed me “Tenacious” because it does take tenacity to be here today and a dance in the morning whilst making coffee. Girl child you can be anything you want to be and you can do it all, the sky ain’t the limit for you. It doesn’t just happen you need to work hard, prapare and have the best team around you.

This #graduation hits different! In October 2022 after almost two years of full-time online studying and working full time in media, I was very excited knowing I had one unit left to finish my Masters in Counselling. Only to get the surprise and beautiful miracle that we were expecting our first child, aka Benji!

The next day after finding out I was pregnant, I told my manager (not waiting for three months as many do) because I had been suffering from fatigue, I didn’t want to be lying about my health issues. Besides, I knew how important my role at work was as we were working on a challenging project that I wanted to be transparent in case I couldn’t manage it. This was the best decision, as I was extremely supported during that first trimester. To be allowed to take naps during lunch time in my GM’s office or the first aid room was heavenly. The managers at work and HR were an absolute delight during my whole pregnancy I felt supported.

Additionally, I was a few weeks in preparing for my first musical launch! That high energy Tinashe, was fatigued but I chose to show up every Friday night for practice regardless of the challenges that came with it! It was hard. My best friend lost her first pregnancy, so she was worried about how my dancing would affect me and the possibility of a miscarriage which made me scared. But I did it terrified.

As if my plate was not full enough, my last unit of the Master’s degree was doing a sixteen weeks work placement at Shalom Rehabilitation whilst working full-time (talk about multi-tasking!).

I never stopped my advocacy work for action against family and domestic violence and abuse! I was privileged to be a main speaker at 16days in WA 2022 with the former Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan. At the event I was surprised to find the leadership at Seven West Media in attendance and that added pressure as I wanted to make them proud. That too, I did it scared! I had planned on finishing work for my maternity leave at weeks thirty-eight which I did (even though there was time I thought of finishing early due to work pressure)!

Accomplishing all this was hard but I was determined to complete all my tasks with the help of my loved ones and the teams around me. I am thankful that besides being fatigued I was healthy during my pregnancy hence I could do all the above!

My whole point is that being a #woman should not stop you from overcoming your life challenges if anything we are strong and powerful in our own right! So do you! You can do anything you put your mind and heart to. It takes hard work, honesty and integrity.

Love Always
